Blue Ridge Community College Associate Degree Nursing Program

Our new Augusta Health Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program, in partnership with Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC), is an innovative strategy to develop our team members and to address significant nurse shortages that are forecasted to occur over the next decade.

An ADN program is one of the fastest educational paths toward becoming a Registered Nurse (RN). Often finished in 2-3 years, graduates complete their studies, earn licensure, and enter the nursing workforce more quickly than by pursuing alternate pathways. ADN graduates frequently move on to finish their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – with the financial support of Augusta Health – in as little as one additional year of study

Education Benefits

We are excited to support our team members’ financial health and total well-being! Augusta Health has partnered with Tuition.io to provide in-depth education and comprehensive support on the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF), Student Loan Repayment Assistance (SLRA), and Tuition Assistance Administration.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)

As a not-for-profit organization, Augusta Health qualifies as an eligible employer for the PSLF Program. The PSLF is a federal program that forgives any remaining student loan balances for those who work full time at a qualified not-for-profit and make 120 qualifying payments. Tuition.io helps guide team members through the complex process of determining eligibility and filing an application if they qualify for the PSLF program. All team members are eligible for Tuition.io PSLF's support services.

Student Loan Repayment Assistance (SLRA)

SLRA is available to team members in certain nursing and respiratory therapy positions. Team members who qualify for this program will receive $350/month towards their eligible student loans up to $5,250/year across ALL educational benefits. Review the Overview document for eligibility requirements and more information.

Tuition Reimbursement Program

To support the professional and career growth goals of our team members, we offer a Tuition Reimbursement Program for job-related education. This education could pertain to current roles or opportunities for promotion or transfers, including development for specific skills, preparing or maintaining licensure or certification, or earning a degree

Mayo Clinic Care Network

Mayo Clinic is committed to providing high-quality and actionable leadership knowledge and skills. You can review the available leadership development courses here. Email MayoClinicInfo@augustahealth.com for more information and enrollment details.

Leadership Essentials

Leadership Essentials is designed for all Augusta Health leaders, including team members who have been identified as high-potential for advancement. Through lecture and scenario-based activities, leaders will practice key concepts and strategies, develop action-plans for success and improvement, and take away quick reference guides for task-based responsibilities.

Leaders are expected to understand and deal with HR issues through the entire employee lifecycle. This three-hour course is an introduction to basic human resource concepts, particularly focusing on difficult situations and the law (labor relations, EEOC, FMLA, discrimination laws, etc.)

Leaders will learn candidate selection strategies to hire highly effective team members, aligning the behavioral and peer interviewing with the “hire to fit” assessment. Leaders should also seek to balance the strengths and weaknesses of the team, ensuring that skills gaps and deficiencies are addressed. Once a hire is selected, it is critically important to create a successful onboarding experience for the new team member. Through planning and preparation, leaders should involve the entire team in the onboarding process to instill trust, pride, and teamwork.

A study in how diversity and inclusion are important to a team and organization’s success. In this three-hour course, we’ll discuss strategies to build and support a culture to leverage the different dimensions of diversity. Leaders will learn more about effective conflict management to assess, scope, and diagnose issues, understand the personalities involved, and implement a problem-solving method that will strengthen relationships and results.

This three-day immersive experience is designed to create a deeper assimilation process for newly hired or promoted leaders. During the sessions, you will meet members of the Senior Leadership Team to engage in meaningful dialogue about their leadership journey and philosophy. Participants will learn the “Augusta Way” values for leadership, gain exposure to key functional responsibilities, and have an opportunity to network with other new leaders in the organization.

When we consider “coaching”, we have traditionally viewed it as how well someone has done their job and how well we can measure the outcome.  But today, coaching can be realigned to focus on the well-being concerns that directly impact retention.  The first step in recognizing team member retention is to understand why they are leaving.

This means that you must discover why EACH person is leaving and not make assumptions or guessing at the reason.  While some reasons may be transactional—compensation, benefits, lack of opportunity— other reasons may be centered around relationship-building, not feeling valued, not feeling supported or being burned out.

Coaching for Retention strategies can help team members find their sense of well-being and provide new developmental opportunities.

This interactive course is structured to guide participants on a transformative journey, starting with self-awareness and expanding to team dynamics.  You’ll delve into the psychology of change and the various responses individuals may exhibit along with strategies to respond with empathy and receptiveness.

The Change Intelligence model will be introduced as a framework for understanding, navigating, and enhancing change and to create tailored strategies for effective and sustainable change leadership.  Whether you are a seasoned leader looking to enhance your team’s adaptability or an individual aspiring to navigate personal and professional growth, this course provides the tools and insights needed to foster a transformative culture.

Informal Internship Program for Non-Clinical Roles

Our “informal” internship program in non-clinical support areas is a part of a phased approach to a formal internship program with local academic institutions. For students, an internship can be their best opportunity to see how concepts learned in school truly apply to the workplace and explore potential careers in a real-world setting. Augusta Health is looking for motivated students who are interested in gaining work experience and making a difference in the community. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work, learn, and develop skills at one of the 50 Best Hospitals in Virginia.

Our non-clinical internships provide students within a variety of support disciplines an opportunity to apply their academic classroom education in an actual work setting. A non-clinical internship is defined as having no direct physical contact with patients. These areas may include Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Fitness, and Marketing.
